Then, during the war, they started issuing us with rope-soled sandals. You couldn't wear shoes because the floor was just like an oil slick - oiling all those spindles’. A steep climb or decent but worth it

a short half mile climb that seems to go on forever getting really steep about half way 15-17% but well worth the effort when you see the views of the Cheshire planes

Adelphi Mill in Bollington was constructed in 1856 by brothers George and Martin Swindells, expanding on their father's existing cotton mill business, Clarence Mill. Initially spun cotton, the mill later transitioned to silk and then man-made fibers. It closed in 1975, and now houses a variety of businesses, accessible from Grimshaw Lane.

A small, bustling town on the edge of the Peak District, with numerous independent cafés, shops and pubs. During the Industrial Revolution, Bollington was a centre for cotton mills, quarries and coal mines. Many of the historic mills are still standing, now mostly converted to apartments.

Really lovely bakery and cafe, serving bread Tues-Sat, as well as a selection of cakes and pastries every day. A great stop to fill up bottles, grab a coffee and enjoy some baked goods. Hosts a run club and community events.

This is a lovely, beautiful walk along the Macclesfield Canal in Bolington. Here in Bollington Wharf  you can see colourful canal barges moored up, walk along a good footpath, and enjoy many access points to the canal from the town. Bollington is nestled in the western foothills of the Pennine range and is a great place to visit in its own scenic right, being bordered by the hills of the Peak District.

Muddy footpaths, great views

Another great little feature of Macclesfield. The 'paving slabs' in front of the church are old gravestones. Its great to just stand there and try read some of the old names.

Clarence Mill is a five-storey former cotton spinning mill in Bollington, Cheshire, It was built between 1834 and 1877 for the Swindells family of Bollington. It was built alongside the Macclesfield Canal, which opened in 1831 https://happyvalley.org.uk/?page_id=3946

A nice section that takes you down towards bollington with a nice cafe if you come and cross over the new bridge

short but lung busting climb up the 108 steps from near macclesfield train station to the church at the top ,good footing on steps well placed and sparrow Park at top to pause for a view
