Lovely quiet route. Best when dry, and heading from Kiveton towards Worksop (downhill)

Although not a good picture beneath the undergrowth you can see the brickwork blocking tunnel and closing off the chesterfield Canal at this point. Cross country to Rothervally will take you to the Mineral/ Coke railway line to Staverley where you can rejoin the Chesterfield canal

St Giles Parish Church, Killamarsh dates back to the 12th century with alterations in the 14th and 15th centuries. In the late 19th century the Vestry and North Aisle were added by J M Brooks, and the Chancel and the Porch were rebuilt. In the south side of the Churchyard there is an early Christian Saxon cross and the village stocks.

When the park was transformed from an opencast mining site, 4 main Lakes were created with water from the Moss Brook (fresh water stream). It is estimated that 2 Million Gallons of water per day for 30 days filled the lakes. Nethermoor Lake is at least 20m deep in some parts.

If you take the path between Nethermore Lake and the smaller pond to the north of it, be prepared to have to balance on temporary boardwalks and leap over muddy puddles! (Unless you're not wearing wellies or waders.) 💦

Turner wood is a particularly picturesque place with the canal side cottages and the locks, there also seems to be a couple of resident Swan families too, a lovely place to ride or walk but there is a dismount sign in front of the cottages so please respect this 🙏🙏

I’m not usually a canal tow path rider but it has to be said that the Chesterfield canal is pretty with many picturesque locks and canal side cottages, lovely place 🥰🥰
