9月 9, 2025, The Serpentine Water Feature
The serpentine water feature was added to create the illusion of a picturesque river when viewed from the house. However, most of the Serpentine no longer holds water due to past coal mining activity and requires significant investment over many years if it is to return to its former glories.

9月 9, 2025, Wentworth Woodhouse Rotunda
The Rotunda's construction began in 1739 and was completed three years later, although it had first been planned as far back as 1708. Modelled after an Ionic temple, Thomas had seen the Temple of Vesta at Tivoli during his grand tour and wanted to recreate something very similar at Wentworth. The interior of the Rotunda is a single room where the family would hold dinner and entertainments whilst beneath ground another room would allow servants to prepare refreshments, ensuring that guests were kept fed and watered despite being away from the main house. Sadly, as the centuries passed the Rotunda fell into a state of acute disrepair and was at risk of demolition. £280,000 later, the Rotunda was fully restored in 2010.

9月 9, 2025, Stainborough Castle
The Stainborough Castle folly is an 18th-century "sham ruin" built on the grounds of Wentworth Castle, to give the impression of ancient family history. Originally featuring four towers, only two remain after storm damage, and visitors can climb a spiral staircase. Beware of the dragon at the top!

9月 9, 2025, Wentworth Castle
The only Grade I listed parkland and gardens in South Yorkshire, Wentworth Castle Gardens is home to no fewer than 26 listed buildings and monuments. The estate was originally known as Stainborough Hall. Thomas Wentworth, the 1st Earl of Strafford, purchased it in 1708 and built a new house and gardens to rival the grandeur of his cousin's home, Wentworth Woodhouse.

The first record of a mill here dates back to the Doomsday book of 1086. Worsborough mill is still a working mill today set in the grounds of a reservoir and a 240-acre country park, a haven for wildlife. A nice simple walk around. Can get muddy in places after rain so worth doing in boots if the weather hasn't been great/in the more wintery months

6月 15, 2023, Worsbrough Wagonway Sculpture
The sculpture is inspired by the Worsbrough Wagonway (also called Coal Tramway) which extended from the canal head at Worsbrough, along the southern edge of the Reservoir. It serviced the coal and iron industries. Just below Rockley Old Hall was a junction with one branch going to Silkstone Main Colliery and the other to Pilley Hills Colliery and Ironstone mines. The earliest documentary evidence for the wagonway was in the Edmunds Estate Account, when in 1834 John Saville was paid seven pounds for loss of a strip of farming land along the edge of his field, for the tracks of the wagonway. John Saville was the Miller and Farmer at Worsbrough Mill.

6月 15, 2023, Millsong Bench
The wooden ‘Millsong Bench’ is inspired by Anne Shaw, Mill Manger in the 18th Century and features the emotive words of Barnsley's Poet Laureate, Eloise Unerman. Eloise wrote the touching piece, which reflects the history of the area, and is carved into the bench for people to enjoy. Another of artist, Shane Green’s sculptures can be found in the Country Park and brings to life the stories of the Worsbrough Wagon Way, along with the people and industries it served.

Gem of a small cafe, good cake and hot pastry selection. Water fountain in the canteen area to refill bottles (without judgement of how muddy they are)
