15m top to bottom: you might not even notice you've gone over it.

The concrete promenade can be used as a cycleway between Heacham and Hunstanton out of season or early mornings, with great views across the Wash.

Great spot for a break

A lovely ride along the avenue towards the estate.

I call it a climb... it's Norfolk so more of a bump, however lovely road surface.

Most tourer's will go to Hunstanton as it's the official end/start of the Peddars way, however if you're heading south instead Heacham is a nice beach to stop at and has some interesting features such as an old arcade and casino and an odd little pub with an obsession with the 1950's and blues brothers!

Impressive landmark on the northern approach to Hunstanton.

Excellent cafe serving high quality deli food. Courtyard seating as well as tables out front, or indoors if wet. Open 8am-6pm Mon-Sat, 9am-12pm Sun.

Hugely popular upmarket gastro-pub. There are some tables out the front if you want a pub lunch that's a cut above the usual.

Burnham Market and Burnham Thorpe both have a pub named after the area's most famous son. This one shows that marketing cash-ins aren't a new thing: the name was changed from The Mermaid in 1805 to celebrate the connection.

Accessed across a gravel car park and without anywhere to really leave a bike. Probably a better stop for tourers than for road cyclists in cleats.

Pretty little church sitting in a well-tended churchyard.

The road surface is averagely lumpy and manhole-filled. At least it isn't covered in chippings I suppose.

A small and undistinguished muddy puddle.

Notable landmark, standing on the edge of the low hill that looks out across the Burnham marshes.

Fairly unexceptional parish church, noteworthy for the fact that the south wall re-uses Roman masonry blocks from the fort of Branodunum just to the east of the village.

If heading west, it's at the foot of a fast drop-down taking you into two right-angled corners, first a left then a right. Now a National Trust holiday let.

I can think of nicer places for a break than a layby with no amenities while the traffic on the main coast road whips by. Still, a novelty to see an AA box these days.

The beach isn't visible from the cliff road but you do get some great views out across the Wash, with the westering sun if you're here later in the day.
