lovely riverside route.

Friendly, cosy cafe in Goverton, near Bleasby. There are around 5 cycle racks with very small locks and key so you can lock your cycle up without worrying about it being stolen. The coffee and Chocolate orange cake were delicious! The tea shoppe has a beautiful enclosed garden full of flowers and wild birds. There is a toilet available to use. I would definitely recommend stopping by here for a coffee when on a ride. Visited in April 2025, opening hours are Wednesday - Sunday, 9am-4pm.

Gets busy and they end breakfast at 11.30. Missed out on bacon roll/cob

Almost 1000 years old, of the seventeen arches that constituted the former bridge these are the only two that made it relatively unscathed into the nineteenth century having survived the ravages of time, the elements, and civil war, to bequeath us a priceless legacy of medieval gothic bridge building.

This fine old blacksmiths forge dates back to 1845 and has a horseshoe surrounding the entrance. It's a Grade II listed building.

Nice little climb. Good for benchmarking or friendly battle with friends. Not too long and has a sting in the tail. 99% car free.

Quieter alternative to Spring Lane, which tends to be driven like it's a motorway. Keep your brakes well fettled for the steep bit at the bottom.

Sweet little back road from Gunthorpe bridge to East Bridgford. Traffic free to the west, access only at the eastern end, so very quiet. Great way of avoiding the main road. Watch out for flooding after heavy rain though, as the bottom end is at water level. Tip: keep a gear ready for the last bit where it ramps up suddenly.

The Legend of Sherwood! You can find spots with realtion to Robin Hood in the whole city.

My favourite stretch when cycling on the quiet lanes from Newark to Gunthorpe on the north side of the river. There is also an enjoyable riverside walk to this point from the car-park at Gunthorpe, past the locks and weir.

Shelford Road heading out of Radcliffe on Trent heading northeast towards Shelford. It's not much of a hill but it reaches just over 60m so you get a bit of a view back towards Nottingham and over the River Trent.

Nottingham is lifting on the legend of Robin Hood quite heavily. The statue is in front of the castle, Sherwood Forest a bit to the north by car.

Regularly use this quiet lane when returning SW from Newark towards Bingham and the Vale of Belvoir. Also next to a lovely riverside walk between Hoveringham and Gunthorpe

Great choice for coffee in town but you will need a bike lock

The route itself is flat with some gently rolling hills, and views for miles!

The embankment has currently been closed to cars due to covid, so this makes its the perfect way to get across town on a bike. The river Trent runs next the the road, and is usually full of rowers from the local universities and clubs. There is also large open grass areas to stop at
