Good place to stop before tackling Win Hill

A place I walk regularly, whether to start the great ridge toward Mam Tor, or coming back from that direction to head down into hope. A gradual gradient with stone steps so manageable in all weather, just very windy a lot of the time!

A great way to do this walk is to drive to Edale Car Park, take the train one stop from Edale to Hope and then follow the walk and descending back to Edale Car Park from Hollins Cross

If you love the Peak District, this is the walk for you. Allow a full day so that you can stop, sit and take in the wonderful scenery

Winnats Pass is a limestone gorge which carries a road steeply uphill onto the plateau above. It was the site of several of the mass trespass events in the 1930s when the people clashed with landowners for access to the countryside.

If the weather is kind, Mam Tor offers outstanding views over the valley and the Kinder Plateau. The ridge carries on past Hollins Cross to Lose Hill for more spectacular views.

Situated at the end of The Great Ridge with spectacular views back towards Mam Tor, Lose Hill tends to be a lot quieter than Mam Tor. There is a short steep climb if approaching from Mam Tor but the views are worth it.

Mam Tor is a breathtaking summit with enchanting views over the Peak District. In clear conditions, the views stretch all the way to Manchester. There are so many options when hiking in this area, too. It can get busy, though, so choose your moment.

Go during the week or later in the evening to avoid the crowds at the weekends. Perfect for walking or cycling. There are several routes either side of the dam that take you up to Win Hill or Bamford Edge for a fantastic view of the reservoir down in the valley.

Hollins Cross is a col where paths from Edale and Castleton meet. There are loads of great trails around here, especially via the Great Ridge to Mam Tor. It can get very busy at popular times/when the weather is great, so choose your moment.

Mam Tor is a breathtaking summit with enchanting views over the Peak District. In clear conditions, the views stretch all the way to Manchester. There are endless trails around here which make for great, challenging trail runs. It can get busy on the summit, though, so choose your moment.

Beautiful spot with great all round views. The ridge line from Mam Tor to Loose Hill is a great little outing.

The summit is 462 m above sea level and it is bounded by the River Derwent to the east, the River Noe to the south west and Ladybower Reservoir to the north, with a ridge running north west linking it to Kinder Scout.

One of my favourite spots to go to usually walk up from Yorkshire Bridge (very steep, can be slippy).

Superb all round views to watch the weather constantly changing in every direction :)

The views from Win Hill summit are extensive. You are treated to a wonderful view over Laybower reservoir and Derwent Edge.
