Heights of Abraham great views

Following the edge is a lot less busy than other routes around this area, late September sees the deer enter rutting season.

19th century pleasure ground which exploited the dramatic qualities of the Derwent valley. Peter Arkwright of Willersley Castle enclosed the grounds c 1860 and constructed pedestrian paths from a new entrance on the south side approached from the bridge to Matlock Bath railway station. The entrance from Starkholmes Road was retained and could be used by carriages. A pathway was formed through Fern Cave (scheduled ancient monument) and another on a narrow ledge along part of the cliff face. In 1879 the grounds were leased to the Matlock and High Tor Recreation Grounds Company Ltd and Milner of London was retained to supervise landscaping. Arkwright's Grand Walk, also used by carriages, was created, leading south to the summit from a gateway in Pig Tree Lane, now Pic Tor Lane. A refreshment room was erected near the summit, tennis and quoit or skittle grounds were constructed close to a modified southern entrance and additional paths put in with a broad flight of steps.

a big hill that strikes out in the landscape when viewed from monsal head or dale- the site of an iron age hillfort that was excavated in the late 2000s/early 2010s. a mass burial containing women and children was discovered at the site in 2011, dating back to 440-390 BCE.

The footpath along the summit is commonly known as Giddy Edge, unfenced and not recommended for small children . There is a small metal handrail afixed to the inside edge (of the cliff) totally spectacular.

The views from White Edge are fabulous! It's quite a gentle wander along the edge as well, with an easy to follow path.

Look out for Red Deer in the area below White Edge and over on Big Moor to the left as you near the southern end of White Edge.

High Tor is the last place in England where eagles nested and is a stunning limestone escarpment which is the site of former lead mines.

White Edge is a gritstone escarpment that rises above the edges of Curbar and Froggatt. As you hike along this trail, breathtaking views await. Backed by the mighty expanse of Big Moor and dropping right into the verdant Derwent Valley, there’s so much to explore.

Stanton Moor is a majestic area of upland on the edge of the Peak District. With a Bronze Age stone circle at its heart, the moorland is much-celebrated for its connections to ancient spirituality. Furthermore, you get breathtaking views from rocks on the edge of the moor; overlooking Bakewell from one side and Matlock to the other. There’s a great deal of wildlife, too. All in all it’s a magical place to explore and one of my favourite spots in the Peaks.

Minninglow is a 1,220-foot (372 m) hill in the White Peak region of the Peak District. It is most notable for the impressive chambered Neolithic burial tomb that adorns the summit. The site comprises an oval cairn measuring 148 by 125 feet (45 by 38 m) and is surrounded by a clump of trees. From the air in winter, it almost looks like a festive wreath. Within the tomb are two complete limestone chambers and at least three others that are incomplete.
