Flat ride but worth the visit

Archetypal English village with its large village green surrounded by pretty stone houses and two pubs. The open beck runs in front of the houses in Eastgate, each with their own private bridge. The banks of the stream are planted with flowers. Beverley Minster was constructed in the 13th century and holds the claim of one of the largest parish churches in England. It's a beautiful piece of architecture, often regarded as one of the most stunning Gothic buildings in Europe. Its stained-glass windows are renowned, with some dating back to the 14th century. I'd highly recommend taking a walk inside the building, which is open between 10am-4pm Monday to Saturday.

The building as it stands today was completed in the 15th century but there has been a religious site here since 700. St John was buried in the chapel of the saxon church which stood here in the 8th century and the present minster was built around it.

Quiet, single lane road.

Great place to stop for a breather and be amazed at the architecture

Wansford lock on the Driffield canal was opened in 1770. It was given Grade II listed status in 1985 and restored in 2009.

The Yorkshire Wolds Way passes close by to here and there are are plenty of wide open fields, resplendent in bright yellow rapeseed in the spring, to enjoy.

The roads around Southburn, Hutton Cranswick and Skerne are wonderfully flat and have an air of Belgium about them. These roads are also on the Way of the Roses. The flat reward for all the hills before now.

Between Huggate and Tibthorpe this quiet road gives and wonderful glimpse of the big skies of the Yorkshire Wolds.

Beverley Westwood Pasture, to give it its full name, is an open area to the east of the town of Beverley. Cattle and sheep graze here so you may see a few wandering across the road. There is a race course and a golf course on the Westwood, plus a ruined windmill, known locally as Black Mill, which dates from 1803.
