Links the village of Bielby to the road running between Melbourne and Allerthorpe. The disused Coat's Lock is immediately adjacent just to the north of the bridge, and the bridge was Grade II listed in 2010.

Walbut Bridge carries the road from Melbourne to Allerthorpe, and Walbut Lock is immediately adjacent to the bridge.

Carries Church Road which runs from Melbourne to Thornton. Grade II listed since 1987.

First swingbridge encountered when heading north along the canal from East Cottingwith, which you will need to cross. The canal path is on the east side of the canal to the south of this bridge, and on the west side of the canal to the north.

The Pocklington Canal was constructed at the beginning of the 19th century to transport agricultural goods from the East Riding to the larger urban centres to the south and west. A Bill was placed before Parliament in 1814 and the canal was designed by George Leather Jnr, an experienced navigation engineer who worked on Goole Docks and the Knottingley and Goole Canal. The canal was opened in 1818, running for 9.5 miles from the River Derwent at East Cottingwith to a mile south of Pocklington. The cost was £32,695, which was actually less than the original estimate. Hagg Bridge is one of four bridges crossing the canal designed by George Leather.

Only open Thursdays and Fridays- 10am - 3pm. Well worth a visit.

Lovely food, brilliant cafe

From here, you get a nice view of Hagg Bridge, a humpbacked crossing that spans the Pocklington Canal. The bridge looks so picturesque surrounded by the scenery of the Wolds. The fields are vibrant green, dotted with seasonal wildflowers and trees.

Howden is a market and minster town in the Vale of York, characterised by the impressive arch of the Minster's ruined chancel and the St Peter's Church.

A beautifully decorated 14th century ruin of a chancel and chapel house. The minster church is still operational. The ruin is looked after by English Heritage, but free to enter and view.

Can be a bit muddy in winter

Wonderful bit of wooded gravel track. Watch out for adders sunbathing in summer

Wressle Castle is a medieval ruin built as a palace-fortress in the 1390s. Once owned by Thomas Percy it is now privately owned, but open to the public on occasion. The castle was once much bigger with four sections that formed a square around a courtyard, now only one remains.

Fantastic and cycling friendly cafe in the middle of Pocklington. Outside space to sit if it's nice and plenty of places to stack your bike.

Really nice cafe with a big room upstairs that's good for groups. Can highly recommend the breakfasts, especially the smoked salmon and scrambled egg - yum.
