The Plague Column was erected in 1713 as a column of honor for the Holy Trinity and the crowned Queen of Heaven, Mary. After Prince Paul I Esterházy died of the plague in March 1713, the royal family donated this magnificent baroque plague column in memory of him and to end the plague in the "Royal Freystatt Eysenstatt".
