Take your time down this section as it can get quite busy with people, dog walkers, and cyclists. Some sections are newly laid tarmac but other areas are hardstanding compacted stone. The canal does narrow in parts but all ridable with caution at the locks.

Repairs to the cycle track started on 16th June 2025. Expected to last 3 months. There are signs in place to say the track is closed in places, however, I managed to complete my ride by taking minor detours. Just be aware different parts may be closed on different days.

Handmade Bakery is a popular choice for a decent pastry and coffee. Get them at opening time.

Part of the quarried crag of Pule Hill, the area can be popular with rock-climbers on the least windy days and paragliders on other days. The arch is one of the highlight, but the whole crag offers a beautiful landscape as well as views of the valley below. Easily accessible from Marsden, you can include this spot as part of a short walk; or a much longer hike taking in Black Hill and the Marsden Moors.

This hill is just outside Marsden. Not very high (437 above see level) it is short and steep pull up to reach the top. The trig point offers beautiful views of Redbrook Reservoir. As it was used for quarrying at some point, there are interesting Crags along the way, including the well-known Pule Arch. You will only be able to spot from from walking to the top. Those crags can be popular with rock-climbers on the least windy days and at this is quite generally quite a windy spot, you may spot some paragliders in the area. I saw a few sheep along the route; please keep dogs on leash if you are walking up the the hill.

Easily accessible from Marsden via the Kirklee way. This is a stunning spot and is the first of a chain of 4 reservoirs in the valley. There are quite a few steps to reach that reservoir but your efforts will be rewarded by the view of this beautiful structure as well as the hills surrounding it. Ideal if you prefer short walks, there is a popular circular under 4 miles from Marsden. Or for longer walk, I really enjoyed taking the 4 reservoirs; Black Hill and Pule hill on a 14 miler in Summer.

The 3rd of that beautiful chain of reservoir in the Wessenden Valley. The access from Marsden is quite easy as it follows part of the Kirklee Way and Peak District boundary walk but there are a fews steps to reach the chain of reservoir. Not a bad spot for your first water break on a hot Summer's day or warm tea break from the flask in Winter if you are hiking in the area. It stands at the 2.5 miles mark if you started from Marsden and is less busy than its cousins: Butterley Reservoirs and Blakeley Reservoir You will find benches and the views of the valley are superb.

Can be quite boggy

Castle Hill is a scheduled ancient monument with a history spanning over 4,000 years. It features the remains of Bronze Age and Iron Age hillforts, a 12th-century motte-and-bailey castle, and the site of a deserted medieval village, with the iconic Victoria Tower marking its summit.

Recently been resurfaced and well worth a visit. Also a nice coffee stop on route, along with a tesco much further down.

Excellent spot to stop. BLOC Coffee is great, along with Davinci's pizza! Also a local bike shop (albion) nearby

numerous cafe's and places to stop, loads of culture and a lovely bar scene is popping up. If you remember last of the summer wine this is for you. tours a pleny. Theres also compo's cafe which does pretty good fish and chips but its a hike from the centre at the top of a hill.

One of four reservoirs in the Wessenden Valley, this is a beautiful spot and a great objective for a hike. Constructed in 1836, it was built to supply water to the nearby mills, as well as protect the region from flooding. The Pennine Way long-distance trail skirts the reservoir to the north.

Easily accessible by walking or by vehicle. Brilliant views in all directions of the Yorkshire Skyline. Very relaxing and quiet.
