Tilgate Lake is the biggest of the three lakes in Tilgate Park. It's a popular watersports lake with lots of other activities happening on and around it. Human history here goes back to the Mesolithic period when flint tools were made here. More recently, the area was a royal deer park in the 1600s and then Tilgate Manor Estate from 1647. More recently, BT owned it and the lake was sold for private fishing. Crawley Urban District Council purchased the area in the 1960s, and it's now open to the public.

Of buses

Originally a Saxon village, East Grinstead – which comes from the Old English 'green place'. Dating back to around 1200, East Grinstead officially became a town in the 13th century where it was granted the right to hold a weekly market and an annual fair within its town status

This bronze statue is dedicated to Sir Archibald McIndoe, he was the world-renowned plastic surgeon, who transformed the disfigured faces and hands of servicemen who sustained horrific burns during WW11 and practised at the town’s Queen Victoria Hospital.

The Forest Way runs for around 16 km from East Grinstead to Groombridge, it is a partly shaded, very flat and is excellent for walking and running.
