Sildekona (German: Herring Woman) depicts an elderly woman processing herring in a slightly bent position over boxes and a barrel. The sculpture was created by Tore Björn Skjölsvik and unveiled in 1991. The sculpture commemorates the women who worked in herring processing, an important industry for Alesund.

The lights are still on in the tower, but the rest of the building has been given a completely different use, namely as a hotel room. The Brosundet Hotel, a five-minute walk away, rents the lighthouse from the Coastal Administration and uses it as a special hotel room. Creative architects and builders have created an elegant and fully equipped bathroom on the first floor of the tower, with a diameter of just three meters. On the second floor, they have installed a custom-made bed that takes up half the space. If desired, guests can have breakfast delivered to their door in the morning. A stay in Room 47 at the Brosundet Hotel is very popular with both newlyweds and other guests. The red-painted lighthouse on the breakwater is also of great importance to the people of Ålesund, as it has been declared the municipality's millennium monument.
