In honor of Mrs. Montefiore-Levi, built in 1908

Beautifully situated natural stone building on a tributary of the Amblève River (a former watermill perhaps). Now a brasserie brewing five beers. It also boasts a tavern, shop, restaurant, and the old forge. The ruins of the old 'Chateau d'Emblève' on the rock opposite overlook it.

Beautiful hill. Probably the best choice for traveling from the Meuse Valley to the Ourthe-Amblève Valleys. Tree-lined trail, good road condition, and very little traffic.

The ruins of the small castle are picturesque

It is not a heroic act, nor a discovery, nor an act of resistance that is highlighted here, but the charitable and persistent work of a great citizen of Liège. Hortense Montefiore-Bischoffsheim, was the initiator of the construction of an institution in Esneux, for the rehabilitation and recovery of young children. When she died, Hortense Montefiore left part of her fortune to the construction of a modern hospital in the Esneux region. To honor this benefactor, the municipality of Esneux took the initiative and erected this monument. The monument was created by the Liège sculptor Oscar. On the lower part of the seat, the word CHARITE is carved in the stone at the front. Then follows the tribute: "To Mrs. Montefiore-Levi The municipality of Esneux grateful 1908".
