The Schippershof is one of the oldest buildings in Menen. It dates back to the 17th century and was once, among other things, an inn for bargemen. Until the early twentieth century, the Leie River flowed through the city center and past the Schippershof. The city museum has been located here since 1999. Brouwerspark is situated against the inner wall of the Menen city fortifications. On the other side of the fortifications lies Park ter Walle. Both parks are connected by a postern, an underpass through the fortification wall. As I walked through, I noticed how much the park served as a meeting place. Several groups of people were picnicking in various spots in the (albeit quite small) park. Meanwhile, children were having a blast in the playground. Brouwerspark's name refers to the old brewery that was located there.
