The Voer river leads you from the center of Vossem to Tervuren's Warande Park, along the narrow Voerwegje. The majestic Tervuren Park takes you past the Africa Museum to the De Warandepoort visitor center for a short break. You re-enter the park where, at the Saint-Hubert Chapel, you'll discover the remains of the palace of the Dukes of Brabant. After leaving Tervuren Park, follow the cobblestones and brick wall of the Waalsebaan, a very old road that connected Namur to Mechelen. Soon you'll be walking through a vast landscape of fields, with views stretching for miles all the way back to Vossem. If you prefer, you can shorten the walk to 5.5 km. At hiking junction 43, leave the Voer and from there follow junction 44 and beyond.

5月 21, 2025, Cinquantenaire Arch
The Parc du Cinquantenaire, or "Jubelpark" in Dutch, is a magnificent urban park and one of Brussels' most iconic landmarks, making it a must-visit for tourists. Dominating the park is the impressive Triumphal Arch, built to commemorate Belgium's 50th anniversary of independence. This grand arch, adorned with statues and a quadriga (a chariot drawn by four horses), offers a superb photo opportunity and a sense of historical grandeur. Beyond its architectural beauty, the park serves as a green oasis in the heart of the city, perfect for leisurely strolls, picnics, or simply relaxing amidst beautiful gardens and fountains. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the Parc du Cinquantenaire is a cultural hub, housing several prominent museums that attract visitors with diverse interests. The Royal Museums of Art and History, including the Art & History Museum and Autoworld, are situated within the park's impressive halls. These museums offer fascinating insights into Belgian and global history, art, and automotive heritage, providing hours of exploration for history buffs and art enthusiasts alike. The combination of historical architecture, expansive green spaces, and world-class museums makes the Parc du Cinquantenaire a comprehensive and rewarding stop on any tourist's itinerary in Brussels.

1月 4, 2025, Summer Linden Tree and Wayside Chapel
The summer lime and the associated field chapel are situated at a five-way intersection of largely cobbled, old roads, just southeast of the village center of Duisburg. The lime is centrally located at the intersection, the chapel is located slightly above street level in the verge on the corner of Huldenbergstraat and Keersmakersstraatje. The tree and the field chapel have been standing in an open arable landscape for many years. The summer lime, probably planted in the first half of the 18th century, is very vital and shows few defects or damage. The chance that it concerns indigenous genetic material is therefore high. It also forms a defining object in the undulating arable landscape south of Duisburg. It not only has a beautiful representative growth form, it is also the highest, thickest and oldest summer lime in the region. In addition, it forms a unity with the field chapel and the rural roads that converge at the foot of the tree. The field chapel with which the summer lime forms a unit is dedicated to Saint Barbara. It was built in 1863 and renovated in 1987 by Peter Troberg, following his father's (unfulfilled) promise to build a chapel in Oberbayern (Germany) if his family survived the Second World War. A chapel is already shown at this location on the Atlas der Buurtwegen (1843-1845), so it is possible that the chapel was built to replace an older one. Based on an old photo, the chapel was in a very dilapidated state before the restoration; it was not cemented at that time and the roof had completely disappeared. Today it is a cemented pillar chapel, preceded by a staircase of four natural stone steps. The front gable shows false joints and a barred pointed arch niche in a painted classicist frame. At the top, a facade stone added during the restoration states "1863/ H. BARBARA/ patroness against/ sudden death". At the bottom, a difficult to read inscription refers to the restoration "Anno/ Restauratum/ 1984". Inside, the niche is polychrome painted with imitation glass windows on the side walls and an image of Saint Barbara with the caption "Troberg ex voto patris 1999" on the back wall; this painting was done by the Peruvian Domingo Huaman. 12月 8, 2024, Royal Museum for Central Africa
The objects and animals exhibited in the main building represent less than 5% of the total museum collection. Some figures illustrate the richness of the collection. The Department of African Zoology has more than 10,000,000 specimens, including 6,000,000 insects and 1,000,000 fish. Furthermore, the museum has more than 80,000 wood samples in the xylarium, 200,000 rock samples and 17,000 minerals. The ethnographic collection boasts 120,000 ethnographic objects (of which 1,600 are in the exhibition halls). The ethnomusicology department manages 8,000 musical instruments collected in sub-Saharan Africa and in particular in Central Africa (Congo, Rwanda and Burundi) and 2,500 hours of recordings of traditional music from sub-Saharan Africa (in particular Central Africa), the oldest of which date back to 1910 (Edison wax rolls). The xylarium contains more than 56,000 wood samples. More than 500,000 films and photographs are kept in the film library and photo libraries. Finally, the History department manages thousands of historical objects and three kilometres of archive documents.[10] Some of the collections are digitally accessible via the libis network.[11]

The museum, which is one of the most visited museums in Belgium, houses exceptional collections from former colonies in Central Africa. For example, it has the world's richest and most famous collection of ethnographic objects from Central Africa and the complete archive of Henry Morton Stanley. The institution's scientific interest extends across five different domains: cultural anthropology, zoology, geology, history and agricultural and forestry economics. The museum's content is made accessible by exhibiting part of the collection and organising temporary exhibitions.

Just to be sure: the Colonial Palace or Palace of the Colonies, which you can no longer call that but now have to call Africa Palace, is the building that you see at the very end of the Tervurenlaan when you come from Brussels. So it is not the same as the museum building, on the road to Leuven (across from the famous elephant).

King Leopold II wanted to introduce the Belgian population to the Congo colony through a museum. The royal domains in Tervuren were chosen as the location. This was the birth of the Congo Museum. Initially, on the occasion of the Colonial Exhibition in 1897 in the Africa Palace (former Colonial Palace) that had been set up for this purpose, but this soon proved to be too small. The French architect Charles Girault was appointed to draw up the plans for a new museum. The building had to radiate the prestige of the then young Belgian state. The works began in 1904 and lasted until 1909. The building in a neoclassical architectural style looks impressive. The Parisian Petit Palais served as a model for the museum. After years of renovation, the museum has undergone a major change in appearance. From now on, a new reception pavilion (with ticket sales, shop, restaurant) provides access to the museum. An underground gallery leads from this pavilion to the old museum building. It was renovated and restored with respect for the original, protected architectural concept. Light and transparency are reintroduced into the building, just as architect Girault had in mind when building this museum. The original perspectives and views in the building were opened up. The current patio garden was given a contemporary intervention. Part of it was deepened. This sunken garden brings light to the underground level and can serve as an open-air theatre. Opposite the museum on the Leuvensesteenweg, since 1938 there has been an elephant by Albéric Collin (1886-1962), the most important Belgian animal sculptor of his time. The total height is 5.10 m up to the elephant's back, 7 m up to the trunk and 8.5 m up to the tip of the spear.
