Obelisk is a monument dedicated not to Napoleon, but to Austrian Emperor Franz I, who commissioned the road from Opicina to Trieste, completed in 1830. This obelisk, erected in gratitude by the Chamber of Commerce in 1839, as it was an important an important asset for the development of the trade route. Today this is also the spot to begin a cycling/hiking on Strada Napoleonica (officially Strada Vicentina), opened by Napoleon's troops in 1797. The route offers 3.2 km of breathtaking views , featuring scents of the sea and pine forests.

The Napoleon Road ends at the Opicina Obelisk (325 m), erected in 1830 to commemorate the visit of Austrian Emperor Franz I. The former historic tramway from Trieste once led up to the obelisk. At the obelisk, the karst plateau drops steeply down to Trieste – this was the "magical" spot where travelers in earlier centuries saw the sea for the first time after days and often weeks of arduous travel. The palace has an entrance fee. The park is free to visit during opening hours. In my opinion, just seeing the palace from the outside is completely sufficient. Of course, if you want to learn more about the history of the Habsburgs, you should take a guided tour. Great pictures can be taken here, and you'll always find new photo opportunities.
