After the current Catholic church had been used as a shared church for centuries, the foundation stone for our Protestant church was laid on May 28, 1885. After just over a year of construction under the architect Professor Heinrich von Schmidt of Munich, the inauguration was celebrated on September 22, 1886. The outer walls of the building are made of square Oppenheim limestone, while Dexheim limestone was used for the inner walls. The rest of the interior was designed with Flonheim sandstone. The large St. Martin's bell with Luther's image was installed on May 10, 1886 and the small St. Paul's bell with the biblical saying "Whatever you ask in my name, if you believe, you will receive" was installed on May 11, 1886. The windows were painted in the Beiler stained glass workshop in Heidelberg in the historicist (neo-Gothic) style (see below for more on the windows). The church still has the original glazing today.
