The Parish Church of San Martino: Architectural Highlights Perched on a tuff spur opposite the village, and separated from it by a deep escarpment, the parish church is unique because it is predominantly built of terracotta (the façade is stone), like most medieval parish churches in Tuscany. The construction of the parish church dates back to the second half of the 13th century, when a new parish church was created, detached from the previous parish church of San Gervasio. The Interior Of grandiose proportions, the parish church appears to have a rather uniform masonry, despite having been restored several times over the centuries. According to studies conducted on its architectural structure, different periods of construction appear to coexist. Nevertheless, the most striking style is late Romanesque. The interior consists of three naves of five bays with brick columns, a raised presbytery, and three side chapels. Inside, there is also a hexagonal baptismal font, a holy water stoup, and a large marble basin. The latter, destroyed in the 17th century, was presumably used for the immersion baptismal rite and came from the church of Santa Maria da Ripezzano, near Palaia. The parish church is also a scenic location for ceremonies and weddings. https://www.terredipisa.it/attrazione/palaia-pieve-san-martino/

The Teatro del Silenzio is an open-air amphitheater created in 2006 thanks to Andrea Bocelli, originally from Lajatico, who convinced the municipality to create this evocative space immersed in the hilly landscape. The natural scenography is enriched by blocks of Tuscan travertine, while the stalls, dismantled during periods of inactivity, give way to an enchanting artificial lake. A unique place, where art and nature merge in a silence full of emotion.

Chianni, a Tuscan municipality in the province of Pisa, rises 200 meters above sea level, 35 kilometers from Pisa and 40 from Livorno. Its historic center is characterized by picturesque views, ancient churches such as San Donato (dating back to 1600 and restored in 1800) and Madonna del Carmelo (12th century), as well as breathtaking views of the surrounding plains and chestnut forests in the hills.

The building, inaugurated on 27 July 2006, was erected by will of the popular singer Andrea Bocelli originally from this country. According to the original idea, the structure was created to be assembled and host only one show a year (hence the name "Teatro del Silenzio"). The construction consists of a circular "stage" with a radius of a few meters in the center of which stands a different scenography every year: the most famous, which has become the symbol of the Theater itself, is an imposing sculpture depicting a human face created by the Polish sculptor Igor Mitoraj for the scenography of a Manon Lescaut and subsequently donated by the sculptor to the foundation of the theatre. Some blocks of Tuscan travertine were placed as a backdrop to the stage. On days when the theater is not in operation, the stalls are completely dismantled and the stage is transformed into an artificial lake. From here comes the definition of Theater of Silence, more precisely that place in the territory of the Municipality of Lajatico characterized by hills which, with (necessary) earthmoving interventions, was created, or rather simulated, as a natural Theater thus conceived.

Lari is famous for its Castello dei Vicari, located at the top of the hill and in the center of the city. This interesting fortress was started around the year 1000 in a strategic point of the Arno valley and grew in splendor until 1400, when it began to host the Vicars, i.e. the magistrates who had the task of administering a large part of the Pisan territory on behalf of the Grand Duke of Tuscany. Today, after being restored, it is open to the public and hosts conferences, meetings and exhibitions, as well as guided tours, entertainment, concerts, theater, wedding ceremonies and other initiatives for groups and school parties.
