The very panoramic itinerary allows you to enjoy the most suggestive and wild scenery of Somma-Vesuvius, crossing forest environments, scrubland up to bare lava rock. The starting point is located along the road that from the Medici Palace of Ottaviano continues towards the volcanic complex. A barrier prohibiting vehicular traffic marks the beginning of the route, the first stretch of the path, common with path no. 1, winds along asphalted hairpin bends, and then turns into a dirt path. The plant landscape consists initially of a thick pine forest of stone pine and then in a mesophilous forest, with essences such as chestnut, Neapolitan alder, Neapolitan maple, holm oak, black locust. Among the nesting birds, the minute lesser spotted woodpecker, rare and localized in Campania, has only recently colonized the Vesuvius Park. After more than 1 km of walking on a steep climb you reach Largo Angelo Prisco dedicated to the young financier murdered by poachers in 1995 which represents the closest destination. From the Largo, path no. 1 branches off to the left, while the itinerary continues on the right on a slight climb, entering, between twists and turns, into a shady chestnut grove where the numerous species of mushrooms present give off an intense and pleasant fragrance.

Mount Pendulum, 618 meters high, has seen more than one cross placed on its ridge. The current one was inaugurated on October 29, 2022, through a blessing and the switching on of the lighting, which makes it visible at night even from very far away.

An evocative and very panoramic place, to be visited absolutely to enjoy a unique perspective of the Gulf of Naples!

The volcano symbol of the city of Naples, is still active, its last eruption dates back to 79 years ago.

The "cognoli" are the peaks of Monte Somma. Monte Somma is the ancient volcano from which Vesuvius originated.

Great Adventure thanks to our spectacular mountains. Breathtaking panoramas (see photos), snow-covered paths that were so suggestive. With great sincerity, I say little to say everything was wonderful. However, the whole route is really very difficult, I won't deny that in certain places you need mountaineering experiences (a stretch of rock that goes to the antennas), the usual recommendation..... trekking shoes/stick/hookhook/axe/knife/whistle/ water bottles/energy bars. There is normally a lot of energy expenditure today mainly because there was snow and ice, but everything was beautiful.

After sixty years the cross on Monte Pendolo in Pimonte was removed and replaced with a new, much higher and more imposing one. The 12m high and 6m wide structure is fully illuminated. The dismantling work began on 25 June and the inauguration of the new cross took place on 29 October 2022. The coordinator of the project was Carmine Amodio who also launched a fundraiser.

Reached the top of Monte Sant'Angelo it is possible to see Vesuvius, the Gulf of Naples, Cava de 'Tirreni, the Gulf of Salerno and of course the Lattari mountains in the distance.
