Normannstein Castle is impressively situated high above the town of Treffurt and offers magnificent views over the old town and the Werra Valley. The castle complex is well restored and can be walked around in a circle.

A visit to Adolfsburg is always worthwhile

The cherry orchard is a former cultivated area that every resident of Treffurt was required to manage. Today, things are handled somewhat differently: since 2014, the town has given each newlywed couple a cherry tree and planted this orchard.

The stairway, and especially the ladder to heaven, are not for those with a fear of heights – at least not if you go down this path. You might get weak knees looking down the steep slope. The steps are quite good, though, since there are no railings, you need good tread and a bit of stamina to descend safely. It's easier to go up the path, which is what most people do.
