ヴィラの名は、伝説によればプリニウス若年が植え、かつてヴィラの庭園を飾っていた巨大なニレ（Olmo）に由来します。新古典主義様式のヴィラ（現在の中心部）の当初の設計は、18世紀後半にデザインされたティチーノ州ミュッギオ出身のシモーネ・カントンニによるものです。最初の所有者はインノチェンツォ・オデスカールキで、その後の所有者たちはヴィラの様式的な外観を損なうことなく、翼棟を増築して建物を拡張しました。有名なゲストにはナポレオンやガリバルディがいます。現在、ヴィラはコモ市に属しており、修復後は文化イベントに利用されています。
メインファサードはコモ湖に面しており、中心部（つまり元のヴィラ）と、柱やファサードの視覚的な区切り、ピラスターによってリズミカルに分割され、彫像のある屋上テラスで上部が締めくくられている部分、そして両側の翼棟で構成されています。
明確に構成された外観は、内部では豪華な装飾へと変化します。ここには、17世紀後半から18世紀初頭の芸術家によるスタッコ装飾、金色の装飾、フレスコ画が豊富にあります。すべての部屋の中で、特に目を引くのは、1853年に作られた92席の小劇場「Teatrino」で、その装飾的な魅力とフォンタナのフレスコ画が特徴です。
庭園には、小さな新古典主義様式の神殿があり、小川が流れています。庭園の中央、ヴィラの向かいには、2人の子供が海の怪物と遊んでいる様子を描いた噴水があります。これは彫刻家G. Odofrechiの作品です。屋根裏部屋は、未来派建築の最初の提唱者である建築家アントニオ・サンテリア（1886-1916）の展示に捧げられています。

At the end of the beach promenade there is "suddenly" a huge building: Villa Olmo. Imposing park with a panoramic view of Como. The bike has to be pushed.

Villa Olmo is a perfect example of Italian neoclassical style. Its elegance and charm didn’t go unnoticed by Napoleon Bonaparte and Giuseppe Garibaldi, who were two of the most notable guests of the villa. The villa began restoration work in early 2024, so its interior will not be open to visitors for about a couple of years. The gardens that surround it are open all throughout the year. The city wall was built in the 13th/14th. Built in the century and surrounded the old town of Como. Mighty, square towers stand at regular intervals, although the former main gate is no longer preserved.
