On Lake Maggiore, in the province of Varese, the town of Sasso Moro boasts a small port from which mostly small private sailing boats and pedal boats depart. The port area is preceded by a lush forest.

From this panoramic point between Caravate and Mombello, a crossroads of numerous hiking trails, you have a splendid view of the plain below and Lake Maggiore. Here you are about 400 meters above sea level and one of the villages that you notice is Leggiuno.

No space for pedestrians

Cardana is a fraction of the municipality of Besozzo. It is strategically located between lakes Maggiore and Varese. The Church of San Martino is definitely worth a visit.

Previously built in the fourteenth century. Rebuilt in the 19th century, today it has a plan with three naves and side chapels. The stone bell tower is the only evidence of medieval origins.

One of the best view on the lake in the surroundings, very easy to reach both by foot and with the bike. Beware during Christmas time: a big comet star is mounted here that blocks a bit the view (you can always go around it). Also, from time to time you may find quite a few people here grilling (I'm not sure it's allowed, but anyway it happens).
