It lies at the upper end of the Echerbach valley, about 900 meters west-northwest of the town, below a pond. Before land consolidation, the small valley was meadow and wasteland and served as an illegal dumping ground. The plan called for the creation of five new ponds here to retain water. After excavating the ponds, the remains of Roman walls were uncovered and the bath, known since 1820, was rediscovered, it was decided not to create the uppermost pond, which would have destroyed the building. Instead, the bath was completely excavated, and its foundations were partially reconstructed for public display.
