Gars Castle rises majestically above the towns of Gars and Thunau am Kamp. Its origins date back to the 11th century. Over the centuries, the castle has experienced turbulent times, including destruction during the Napoleonic Wars around 1809. In 1996, it became the property of the municipality of Gars am Kamp and is used for cultural events. Today, Gars Castle is best known for its summer opera performances. The impressive backdrop of the castle ruins and the unamplified acoustics offer a unique opera experience. In addition to operas, other open-air events such as pop, folk music and cabaret evenings are also offered.
