An ancient medieval structure partially destroyed during the retreat of the Austro-Hungarian army

The parish church of San Pietro Apostolo in Fontanelle (province of Treviso and diocese of Vittorio Veneto, forania opitergina) is an ancient "pievana" church. The title of parish belonged to it since the Middle Ages, even if it is not known when it became an independent parish. Already before the year 1000 it is mentioned as "matrix" in a document regarding the parish of Visnà di Vazzola. The benefit of Fontanelle was conferred by the bishop of Ceneda to Prè Giovanni, the first officially appointed parish priest, on 20 February 1449.
