Beautiful valley from Allzunah to StüBa

Very comfortable to drive

It's impressive when you drive into Elkersburg. You just don't expect such a gigantic facility.

From the 33-meter-high observation tower, in clear weather, you can enjoy excellent views of the Schneekopf with Gehlberg, the Inselsberg, Oberhof, Gotha and Erfurt, the Ettersberg near Weimar, Ilmenau, as well as the surrounding towns of Geschwenda, Geraberg, and Elgersburg with the "Zahme Gera" and "Reichenbachtal" motorway bridges. There is also a restaurant with a beer garden at the summit, where tickets for the tower climb are also sold.

The Neue Gehlberger Hütte is located on the 978-meter-high Schneekopf mountain and is the highest-altitude serviced hut in Thuringia. It offers a cozy hiking hostel with shared rooms and a restaurant serving traditional Thuringian cuisine. Opening Hours: The restaurant is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. – longer in summer. Breakfast for guests is served from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
