The fruiting body of the fly agaric Amanita muscaria grows in summer and autumn under conifers and deciduous trees and is easily recognizable and well-known due to its red hat with the white spots. The toadstool has hallucinogenic properties and is therefore used as a hallucinogen, as an intoxicant and as an entheogen. The effects are attributed to the isoxazole derivative ibotenic acid and the decarboxylated metabolite muscimol. The well-known Muscarin, however, does not matter. A poisoning is rarely life threatening. Due to the potential adverse effects, hallucinogenic experiments are not recommended in our view.
