Ingenheim "was home to the most important rural Jewish community in the Palatinate around the middle of the 19th century. The 578 Jewish citizens (in 1847) represented about a third of the total population at that time. It was not for nothing that people referred to it as 'Little Jerusalem.'" The formerly overgrown Jewish cemetery has been beautifully restored. Its location on the edge of town, with its diverse gravestones, is incredibly beautiful and exudes a sense of tranquility. The last burial took place in 1978. The cemetery is closed, but keys are available upon prior appointment; see online.
