Not so crowded mountain hut

Great place to enjoy some lovely food/beverages with magnificent and iconic views. The route leading up to the Hörnlihütte can be challenging if it is icy, so be prepared with the right equipment in any case.

Challenging terrain, especially if it is wet/icy, but the Hörnlihütte is a great reward for mastering the terrain :)

This refuge offers over 135 years of tradition as a hub for hikers, climbers and, in winter, skiers. It is a simple and charming mountain cabin with shared rooms, located at 3,030 meters above sea level. Be sure to try the mountain guide omelette. There is a balcony with a spectacular view of Mount Breithorn, which is part of the Monte Rosa mountain range. Reaching the refuge can be tricky as many of the trails are on technical terrain, but from the north, the Tour del Monte Rosa route is rough but not very technical. Towards the south, the path takes you above the incredible Teodulo glacier. Depending on the weather conditions, running on the glacier is sometimes possible and I recommend using crampons to be safe.
