Place Moulin is the highest arch dam in Europe and was built between 1961 and 1965; the barrage reaches a height of 155 m and is 678 m wide. It creates an artificial lake thanks to the waters of the Buthier torrent, a torrent which then runs through the whole of Valpelline. It is one of the largest lakes in the Aosta Valley and reaches a length of about 4 km.
