What we see is a natural phenomenon caused by the presence of minerals dissolved in the water such as copper, manganese and woodwardite. The mixture of these minerals brings out the various chromatic shades ranging from green to intense turquoise. In fact, the color of the water from the nearby Servette mine is yellow tending to brown, while the deposits of woodwardite make the water of the spring turquoise. It is not just an aesthetic factor: observing the color of these waters and following their course, the Romans discovered mineral deposits that were exploited both in antiquity and in modern times, up to the 1950s.
