Bridge still closed as of 20th April 2024. Looks like there's still weeks/months of work left. I tried to cross but the construction workers forced me to turn around and take the 15km detour

Lake Coghinas is an artificial lake that collects water from the Rio Mannu and the river of the same name. It was built in 1927 under Mussolini, to build a hydroelectric power station. The dam is 185 meters long and 58 meters high. On the eastern bank of the gorge you can see an Art Nouveau villa that housed the director of the plant, which was then abandoned.

Like many lakes in Sardinia, it is an artificial basin created by the damming of the Coghinas river. To cross it there is a bridge but at the moment it is closed to traffic.

Bridge that crosses the lake on state road 392. At the moment it is closed to car traffic as a precaution by Anas. (With the bike, if you want, you can go beyond the guard rail and cross but don't take this as advice!)

3 climbs, one after the other, with short descents between each. Overall avg of 4-5%, but the climbs avg 6-8%. Beautiful view down the valley on the first climb, the second and third are a bit more shaded.

Very quiet street through sparsely populated area with really little traffic. Very nice racing bike course. Only a few options for refilling the drinking bottles on the go. There is not a single grocery store between Tempio Pausiana and Viddalba. Tip: In the street café in Bortigiadas, a 1.5 l bottle of chilled mineral water (still) costs only € 1 (August 2020).
