入り口の柱は地元ではマンマロッキと呼ばれています。これらは、16世紀のマニエリスム庭園と建築文化で活躍したピロ・リゴリオ作とされる、トラバーチン製の大きな寓意的な人物像です。基部に彫刻された潰れたバラはオルシーニ家の紋章であり、この地の古い所有権を示しています。 マンマロッキは、実際、「個人の邸宅の入り口」に立っています。この邸宅はオルシーニ家の所有でしたが、現在はデル・ガッロ・ディ・ロッチョジーネ侯爵家の所有となっています。邸宅の平面図や立面図の説明はありません。

Beautiful village with a lot of history

The gate bears the coat of arms of Vitorchiano with the inscription SPQR (for which the village received permission from Rome). The gate is part of the old wall that extends for about two hundred and fifty metres on the south side of Vitorchiano. The tower above the gate dates from the 13th century. The old city walls (Le Mura Castellane) have several towers, each built of peperino stone and dovetail battlements with loopholes in between.

An impressive entrance gate. The train ride appears to be no longer in use. It's a shame, perhaps it's no longer maintained.

Beautiful village in Tuscia, very safe due to the absence of thefts...!

Vitorchiano, an ancient center a few kilometers from Viterbo, is one of the many but charming villages of Tuscia. The beautiful historic center is characterized by the gray color of peperino and by alleys, arches, profferli and very suggestive squares. Equally suggestive and, sometimes unexpected, are the viewpoints towards the gorge of the Fosso Acqua Fredda, a tributary of the Vezza River.
