BEAUTIFUL MTB RACE COURSE

Not far from the Trasimeno and Chiusi lakes, very close to the border with Umbria but still included in the territory of the Tuscan Montepulciano, this lake has a surface area of almost two square kilometers and is part of the homonymous protected natural area. It has a maximum depth of five meters.

Not everyone knows the hydraulic system of the Tresa and Anguillara valleys, which is extremely complex. Just think that each of the four streams - Maranzano, Moiano, Rio Maggiore and Tresa - is equipped with locks, floodgates, diversions and double outlets that allow the flow of their waters to be diverted alternately towards Lake Chiusi or towards Lake Trasimeno. All this because a pope in 1490 ordered the artificial diversion of the Tresa and Rio Maggiore, natural tributaries of Trasimeno, in the direction of Chiusi, causing these streams to flow into the flooded waters of the Clanis, known as "Chiana", and forcing the reconstruction of the Anguillara canal in 1958 to bring the water of these streams back to their original destination.
