beautiful refuge in the Selleries valley

This bivouac crosses the border between Italy and France. It sleeps 7. We recommend arriving by lunchtime, as it's very popular (especially on weekends; we were once in a group of 15). There's minimal heating and some light thanks to solar panels.

This cross-border bivouac is located on Italian soil near Col Clapier, near the French border. The easiest way to reach it is from the Piccolo Moncenisio pass, and after Lake Savine, it's another half-hour's trail.

Alpine Farm near Oulx Tucked away on the high slopes near the Strada dell’Assietta, this remote mountain farm is special. If the doors are open, step inside. The family produces raw-milk cheeses using age-old methods, matured in a cool stone cellar. A slice of toma or fontina offers a quiet moment of warmth and simplicity, right in the heart of a demanding day. From here, it’s downhill into the Oulx valley. Mostly.

The Selleries refuge is located in the municipality of Roure (TO), in the Chisone valley, in the Cottian Alps, at 2,035 m above sea level. It can be easily reached by mountain bike from the paved road, but also on foot. The craft beers are excellent.

Massimo is one of the best and kindest refugee managers I have ever met.

In the Orsiera Rocciavrè park. Reachable only by paths, not all of which are ideal for MTB. The effort is rewarded by this splendid place.

The Rifugio Toesca is located in the heart of the Orsiera-Rocciavrè Natural Park, in Val di Susa. It offers typical Piedmontese cuisine and the possibility of overnight stays in both rooms and tents. It is open all year round, every day in summer until the end of September, and weekends and holidays during the rest of the year.
