3月 16, 2025, Agliè - il centro storico
Agliè, an enchanting village in the heart of Canavese, boasts a thousand-year history that has its roots in the Roman era. The original nucleus, probably located on the hills of the current hamlet of Santa Maria delle Grazie, was known as "Macunciacum" and depended on the Abbazia Fruttuaria di San Benigno. Agliè, as a fortified village, emerges in documents in 1141, when the feudal lords of Canavese divided the territory. The town became one of the lands of the San Martino di Rivarolo and Agliè, a family that would profoundly mark the history of the village. Despite the feudal struggles that raged in the region, Agliè maintained relative stability, even if it was not immune to looting and devastation. With the arrival of the Savoy, Agliè experienced a period of growth and development. In 1448, the village obtained municipal statutes, a sign of autonomy and recognition. The most emblematic figure of this period was Count Filippo San Martino di Agliè, a man of culture and prominent politician. Minister of Cristina of France, regent of the Duchy of Savoy, Filippo transformed the castle of Agliè into a sumptuous residence, enriching it with works of art and gardens. Today, Agliè is a village that preserves its historical and artistic charm intact. The Ducal Castle, with its gardens and richly decorated rooms, is an unmissable destination for visitors. The streets of the village, with their stone houses and noble palaces, tell the story of a place that has managed to preserve its identity over the centuries.

9月 2, 2024, Roman Arch and Road of Donnas
The Roman road of the Gauls, built to connect Rome with the Rhone Valley, has in the Donnas section one of its most characteristic and spectacular points, carved out of the living rock over a length of 221 metres. In a place where in ancient times the rocky promontory plunged into the waters of the Dora, the Romans launched a real challenge to nature by carving out a living rock on which they could draw perfectly vertical walls and in whose bosom they cut the roadbed. Exciting and unusual, here the Via delle Gallie gives its best by offering the spectacle of a vaulted passage 4 metres thick, 4 metres high and almost 3 metres wide that eloquently illustrates the amount of rock removed and shows all the refinement of a road engineering never again achieved until viaducts and modern tunnels. In the Middle Ages it served as a gate to the village, which was closed at night; The other defences were of course: on one side the mountain and on the other the river. A fundamental road, much used over the centuries, as evidenced by the deep ruts left by the passage of carts and the wear of the walking surface that has been patched and repaired at various points over time. A little further on, on the right, we recognise the excellent profile of a milestone, also spared in the rocky bank, which informs us of the distance to Augusta Praetoria (the current city of Aosta): XXXVI miles (about 54 km).

This is where the hard area of the Colle del Nivolet begins. It is a mountain town in the Orc Valley, which has a very pretty fountain next to a bridge over the river. It's worth stopping to take a breather and regroup. Right at the exit of the town, the first horseshoes and ramps above 10%. The Nivolet show begins!!!

3月 30, 2024, View of Forte di Bard and Ponte di Bard
The Ponte di Bard, also known as the Bard Bridge, is a historic arch bridge in the Aosta Valley region. This bridge spans the Dora Baltea River and connects the municipalities of Bard and Hône. The bridge is built of stone and consists of 2 arches. It connects the lower part of the village of Bard with the southeastern side of Hône, in Rue Émile Chanoux. The route of the bridge slopes slightly, from Bard to Hône. From this old and beautiful arch bridge you can admire one of the best views of the nearby Forte di Bard. The fortress, which has remained almost intact since its construction, is an impressive example of military architecture from the early nineteenth century. A walk across this bridge not only offers beautiful views of the fortress, but also a touch of history and beauty

3月 29, 2024, Echallod Stone Bridge
The Ponte di Echallod is a picturesque pedestrian bridge in the Valle d'Aosta region. This stone bridge, which has been restored several times over the centuries, connects the upper and lower parts of Echallod village with other villages in Arnad municipality. The Ponte di Echallod is a classic example of 18th-century architecture. It is built with stone and mortar. The bridge has three arches with counterforts and has a symmetrical shape. It is located along the path of the ancient Via Francigena, which comes from Verrès and heads towards Bard and Donnas.

To the west of the village of Donnas, a few meters from the chapel of Sant'Orso, where the road inevitably ran alongside the course of the Dora, stands the Roman arch, dug and cut into the rock and which forms part of the mountain like a natural buttress; the road is carved for 221 meters in the rock, with a large arch that testifies to the cyclopean work carried out: the cut, narrated in the legend of the blacksmith of Donnas, in certain points exceeds twelve meters and traces of the levels reached by teams of stonemasons. The arch, built between 31 and 25 BC, measures approximately four meters in thickness and height and has a span of three metres. In the wall that flanks the road there is also the milestone carved with the Roman numeral XXXVI, indicating the miles that were counted starting from Aosta (Augusta Praetoria). You can also notice some steps that in the past were used to go down to the river bank where there was a mooring for boats.
