In the Middle Ages it formed the municipality of Pedemonte with the villages of Verscio, Cavigliano and Tegna. In September 1800, Auressio saw the first signs of a revolt in Valle Onsernone against the Swiss regiments and French troops occupying Ticino. The prefect of Lugano ordered the military occupation of Auressio and the extradition of eight citizens. Subsequent modifications and changes continued until the early 1900s.

The Scopello pass is located at 970 meters above sea level and connects Cannobio, on Lake Maggiore, with Santa Maria Maggiore and the Vigezzo valley. The top of the pass is dedicated to the cyclist Marco Pantani.

Reaching the three summit crosses offers a unique view of the Lago. It is said that this is the only point from which it is possible to see the entire Lago (both end points).

The view is great. One should misleadingly not talk about walks here. The upper part is exposed and a misstep can have serious consequences, especially when it is wet or in bad weather. For the experienced mountain hiker it is certainly not a problem and a pleasure to balance over the roots and stones along the slope.
