San Bartolomeo in Galdo is an Italian town in the province of Benevento, located in Campania, near the border with Puglia and Molise. It has ancient origins, dating back to the Roman and medieval periods, and has numerous historic buildings and churches, including the Church of San Bartolomeo Apostolo. The town is located in the hilly area of Val Fortore, surrounded by an agricultural landscape. Among the local traditions, there are religious celebrations and cultural events that involve the community.

As a memorial to the many dead, such cenotaphs or war memorials – like this “Monumento ai caduti” in Roseto Valfortore – are still very important today. “Now you, Lord, let your servant depart in peace, as you said...” it says in the so-called “Song of Simeon” (Gospel of Luke chapter 2, verse 29). However, the people who are remembered here did not die in peace, but rather became victims of war and tyranny. Many places and monuments that you encounter along the way are a testament to the horror of war and tyranny - which is still significant and relevant today. They all have, and this is new for each generation, two essential functions: -1- Commemorate and remember the victims -2- Call for the preservation of peace

The great works allowed the extension of the main nave and the construction of three stone arches, decorated by the stonemasons of Roseto, in order to separate the presbytery from the rest of the church. During the 19th century, other renovations led to the construction of the Cappellone.

The majestic Mother Church of Roseto Valfortore, dedicated to the Assumption, was already present in medieval times. It underwent a radical expansion in 1507, by Bartolomeo III of Capua.

In the upper part of the balustrade, located at the main entrance, you can admire the bas-relief of the Lord in the centre, flanked by the engraved coats of arms of the Municipality of Roseto, the Di Capua family, the bishop Carafa and the Roman archpriest. The lower part of the balustrade is composed of several festoons and geometric designs in bas-relief.

In the main square there is the Monument to the fallen of the First World War, which bears the names of the war victims. It is a column monument, built in 1920 by Valentino Bozzelli.

To enter the alleys of Roseto just cross the ancient "Arco della Terra" ancient main gate, which rises right in the square of Roseto Valfortore (FG)

This ancient tradition found its raison d'être in the desire to guarantee even the poorest a meal on the day of the feast of the patron saint of the village, whose statue is kept in this small and unique church.
