The Lahn River rises in the Rothaar Mountains, is 246 km long, and flows through three federal states—North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, and Rhineland-Palatinate—before flowing into the Rhine. Its largest tributary, the Dill, joins the Lahn in Wetzlar.

To allow the fish to move upstream, a fish ladder was built next to the Haustor Bridge.

Water next to water, sometimes beautiful

The Lahn floodplains are an important bird breeding area/nature reserve. Binoculars help us observe the many herons, cormorants, ducks, and geese that are currently quacking low overhead in pairs – even storks clatter during their flight! The two rabbits and the deer are quieter. With so many pairs of geese nesting in the floodplain, I'm sure we'd find large Easter eggs.
