Francesco Martolilla was born on March 27, 1416 in Paola, a village in the province of Cosenza. From the age of 13, Francis began devoting himself to religious life by observing his fasts and abstinences. Thus began his real life as a hermit in an old family estate, and together with other monks who joined him, he founded the Order of the Minimen in 1452. After spending many years of his life in France, he died near Tours on April 2, 1507.
