4月 20, 2025, Torrione di Pedescala
The Torrione di Pedescala, in medieval times but perhaps already in Roman times, was the military observation outpost on the upper Val d'Astico, which has always been a gateway for Germanic and barbarian populations to the plain. It had a direct visual connection with the castle of Velo, further down the valley, of which a tower and 10 metres of walls survive today; the latter was in turn visible from the castle of Cogollo, at the mouth of the valley, which has now completely disappeared: this system allowed for the sighting and reporting of any invasion dangers well in advance.

9月 6, 2024, Astico River Trail
The Astico River owes its name, according to one theory, to the term 'àstacus', which indicates the freshwater crayfish present in some parts of the valley. Another hypothesis links it to the 'laste', smooth stone slabs lapped by the river. In Roman times, the Astico was known as Medoacus Minor, while the Brenta was Medoacus Maior.

6月 10, 2024, Former Italy–Austria Border Monument
Commemorative stone marking the former border between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire until the end of World War I. The border between the two states in the upper Astico Valley had a curious layout: from the hamlet of Busatti, upstream, to the village of Casotto, downstream, the territory to the left of the river was Austrian, while that to the right was Italian. Each citizen had its own route to travel this stretch of the valley, without having to cross the border: the Austrians had the current internal road, while the Italians had the current and parallel state road 350, which connects the Vicenza area to Trentino. At this point, just outside Casotto, the Torra stream marked the demarcation between the two states; the Braidi Bridge, guarded by a garrison, was an important passage for goods and people. With Italy's victory and the annexation of the unredeemed lands, it became the border between Trentino and Veneto. But in 1929, against the will of the inhabitants, a fascist decree imposed that Pedemonte and Casotto pass from the Province of Trento to that of Vicenza: the border between the two regions was moved further upstream, above the village of Lastebasse. An old photo illustrates a moment of conviviality and respect between Austrian customs officers and Italian Carabinieri, sitting at the same table. The original memorial stone is located in the Valdastico cemetery. https://www.freeforumzone.com/mobile/d/11171728/Valle-dell-Astico-e-le-due-strade-sul-confine-parallelo/discussione.aspx

4月 2, 2024, Ponte di Roana
A bold bridge built in the early 1900s to connect Roana to Canove and the rest of the plateau, spanning the deep Val d'Assa. Before that, the only way was up and down the gorge via the old Strada della Sbarra (now a dirt hiking trail closed to traffic). Inaugurated in 1906, it was constructed with two lateral stone pillars supporting a large steel lattice girder. During the First World War, in May 1916, it was blown up by the Italian army to block the advance of the Austro-Hungarian Strafexpedition, after having carried the last rearguards and refugees from Roana-Mezzaselva-Rotzo. After the war, it was rebuilt with three concrete arches, as we see it today. 135 meters long and 80 meters high. There's a steep path on the Roana side that leads to the valley floor and continues under the bridge: from there, the view is impressive, and you truly realize its height and boldness! Unfortunately, in recent decades, the bridge has acquired a sinister reputation as the site of numerous suicides. https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponte_di_Roana
