At the confluence of the Erle and Nahe rivers, in the heart of the medieval town of Schleusingen, stands the mighty Bertholdsburg Castle. From the 13th century onward, it served as the ancestral seat of the Counts of Henneberg and is the oldest residential palace in Thuringia. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the fortified castle was rebuilt into an early modern palace in the Renaissance style. Today, the castle houses the Natural History Museum. Very impressive building!

It's always amazing what people are capable of when they focus on the beautiful things. Building bridges and not tearing them down.

The Bertholdsburg is definitely worth a look. There are stone dinosaurs much more to marvel at. All I can say is, make sure you check it out👍

Beautiful and relaxing cycle path.

Opportunity to rest and to get into the riverbed, as the bank slopes gently here and the stream is easy to walk on. If you want, you can cool off here when the weather is good. Unfortunately, the graffiti thing is true, you see things like that far too often... what a pity.

There is also a small covered seating area and an information board here. From here you can go towards Sommerberg, Steinige Bössel, the Teichbaude near Suhl and many other destinations. The surrounding area could be better maintained, but this is probably due to the felling work currently taking place.
