Simson is the short name of a former weapons and vehicle manufacturer that was restructured and renamed several times over the course of its history. The original company was founded in 1856 by the two Jewish brothers Löb and Moses Simson in the Thuringian town of Suhl. Simson gained its current fame through the two-wheelers it produced in large numbers in the GDR.
