On the northern edge of Augsburg, the wide, parallel Lech Canal branches off towards Meitingen and only flows back into the riverbed after more than 20 kilometers. Along this Lech Canal are three power plants built between 1898 and 1922 (Gersthofen, Langweid, and Meitingen canal power plants). The parish church of St. John the Baptist in Kaufering was built between 1699 and 1704 and boasts a 65-meter-high tower 🕍. Inside, you'll find magnificent stucco work by the Wessobrunner School—a true Baroque gem.

The Maria Hilf pilgrimage church in Klosterlechfeld was founded around 1603 by Regina von Imhof and soon developed into an important place of pilgrimage. In 1624, Franciscans took over the care of the pilgrims and established a monastery next to the church. The current building dates from the 18th century and impresses with its Baroque rotunda form, elaborate Rococo stucco work, and colorful ceiling frescoes. Opposite the church is Calvary Hill, with its Stations of the Cross and three crosses, which completes the spiritual ensemble. To this day, the church remains a place of worship and a destination for pilgrims and culture-loving visitors.
