Terracina, in the central south of the province of Latina, is characterized by buildings from different eras that coexist with the more modern ones next to each other, and make Terracina one of the most fascinating cities in the province. Of very ancient origins, its original name was Anxur, a Volscian name as evidenced by ancient writers and the name of Jupiter as a child (Iupiter Anxur or Anxurus), the patron deity of the city, venerated on the mountain overlooking the city.
