Inside was a large steam engine used to lift silver-bearing galena and other minerals. The shaft was abandoned in 1940.

The Rosas Mine, active from 1849 to 1980 for the extraction of silver-bearing galena, lead, and zinc, is now a multi-purpose museum that chronicles the mining history of the Sulcis region. Sa macchina beccia (old machine) although it looks like a castle or a villa is actually an abandoned mining shaft. It is located near the village Asproni.

Interesting facility, lost places...but the opening times on the internet are wrong. Apparently mostly closed. The outdoor facilities can still be visited though. There are lovely shady picnic areas, and the water taps work!

The park of the Necropolis of Montessu, surrounded by greenery, is beautiful and interesting

The structure that most characterizes this mine is certainly the Santa Barbara extraction shaft, otherwise called Sa Macchina Beccia (old machine in Sardinian). This suggestive building, looking similar to a medieval castle, enormously attracts the visitor's attention; unfortunately the entire structure is abandoned and deserves another fate given the charm it covers.
