6月 23, 2025, Madonna del Ghisallo and Cycling Museum
Since the Madonna de Ghisallo is officially the patron saint of racing cyclists, the Passo Ghisallo is a monument to the Tour of Lombardy and the Giro d'Italia, and also, in general, because it is a wonderful place with a very beautiful climb, you should definitely go up here on your racing bike.

4月 23, 2025, Salita alla Madonna del Ghisallo da Erba
Epic, historic climb. Twin of the harder climb to the Madonna del Ghisallo from Bellagio, more suitable for those who have just started. Short, but can hide several pitfalls especially in the final stretch.

4月 13, 2025, Salita alla Madonna del Ghisallo da Erba
The climb to the Madonna del Ghisallo starting from the Erba area is an alternative to the classic side from Bellagio. It is about 16 kilometers long with a difference in altitude of over 500 meters. The route passes through Canzo and Asso, partly following the Valassina, before the last stretch towards the famous cyclists' sanctuary.

The Ghisallo hill (Ghisall in Lombard) is a road pass that connects Valassina with the upper part of the Lariano Triangle. The crossing point, at an altitude of 754 m above sea level, is part of the municipality of Magreglio. A few meters from the pass there is a small church: the sanctuary of the Madonna del Ghisallo. Its name (according to an ancient legend) derives from a certain Ghisallo who in medieval times was attacked by bandits in that place and made a vow to the Madonna to build a church in his honor if he escaped. The sanctuary of the Madonna del Ghisallo The Ghisallo climb (from the north side) is traditionally covered by the Giro di Lombardia and has also been included several times in the route of the Giro d'Italia. For this reason, the Madonna del Ghisallo is particularly venerated by cyclists, and on the initiative of the then parish priest Don Ermelindo Viganò (1906–1985), in 1949 Pope Pius XII proclaimed her the universal patroness of cyclists. Next to the sanctuary you can find the Cycling Museum and the "Monument to the cyclist", designed and created by Elio Ponti, sculptor from Ponzate, Como. Source: Wikipedia

The climb is not too demanding also because it is divided into two parts by a long downhill section.

On Ghisallo, the historic climb of the Giro di Lombardia, there is a chapel with the Madonna protecting those who pedal, there are statues for Fausto Coppi and Gino Bartali and there is a monument to cyclists, not far from the splendid Ghisallo Cycling Museum (it is a visit is highly recommended!).

Allegedly the most popular climb in the Lake Como area, it's a bucket-list destination for all grimpeurs. The side from Bellagio (probably the harder one) averages 4.5% gradient which is really misleading due to a stretch of flat (even downhill) section about half-way through: don't get fooled and come with adequate gearing! When the climb goes up, it's consistently around 9-10%! At the top, in addition to stunning views, you'll get rewarded with the possibility of visiting the little church filled with bike memorabilia and the cycling museum. From the top, you can choose to go back down towards the lake, or continue uphill to Superghisallo, Piano Rancio, and Muro di Sormano

5月 29, 2022, Passo di Monte Tremezzo
Coming from Osteno on Lake Lugano, we drove up Monte Tremezzo. First you drive uphill on the main road towards Laino. Soon you can then turn left and drive via the towns of Ponna Inferiore/ Ponna di Mezzo and Ponna Superiore in the direction of Monte Tremezzo - all on asphalt but always really steep! Then it continues on gravel/tar, in between it gets flat for a while. When you are out of the forest, you have managed most of the altitude and can enjoy the fantastic view - Lake Como in front and the Swiss mountains in the back - the effort is worth it.
