The small church of San Defendente sits perched on a rocky outcrop high above Lake Iseo. From here, a breathtaking panoramic view opens up over the lake, the Corna Trentapassi, and the surrounding mountains. Especially at sunrise or sunset, the scenery transforms into a magical play of light – a perfect place to linger, marvel, and take photos. The short, but at times steep, climb is more than rewarded by the view. Several benches and picnic tables next to the church invite you to rest. Surrounded by nature, with expansive views of the water and mountains, this spot is a true highlight of any hike on Lake Iseo. Highlights: • Stunning viewpoint with a 180-degree view of the lake • Historic San Defendente Church (easily accessible) • Perfect for photo stops and picnic breaks • Also suitable for families • Particularly atmospheric at sunrise or sunset Trail conditions: Well-maintained hiking trails, steep and rocky in places; surefootedness is helpful. Sturdy shoes are recommended. Children ages 7 and up can easily manage the climb. Tip: Those who start early will be rewarded with morning mist over the lake and fantastic light. The "Panoramica Valle del freddo" hiking trail runs halfway between Castro and Zorzino. In summer, the view is obscured by trees along much of the trail. A true view of the lake is only available in the northern section.
