Leaving Mussons on Via dell'Argine, you'll find the well-paved Giratagliamento trail, elevated to overlook the meadows and woods of the floodplain, all the way to the Torreano Golena Forest. The SCI extends over 140 hectares in the lower Friulian plain, encompassing a stretch of the Tagliamento River floodplain formed by sandy-silty and calcareous-dolomitic alluvium from the recent post-glacial period. The site features a stretch of riverbed and floodplain that exemplifies the vegetation types of the torrential watercourses of the lower Friulian plain, one of the few remaining in the region. It consists mostly of riparian forests of white willow and black poplar or black alder, occasionally invaded by black locust and other exotic species.
